We’re pleased to announce that all equipment for the BioRegional Lab has now been acquired, including Bento Lab units, compound microscopes, and a full suite of field study tools. With generous support from the Connector Grant and the expert assistance of Professor Neils Tommerup—who helped assemble and calibrate the microscopes—the lab is now fully operational.
The lab now holds resources for regional fungi groups, including DNA analysis tools, dissecting and compound microscopes, sample storage materials, and comprehensive field survey kits. We also have extensive materials and equipment for fungal forays: FSC identification guides, hand lenses, sample containers, and preservation equipment supplies.
These resources are available to support mycological research and education across Bannau Brycheiniog. Our collection of identification texts and other useful books can be found here: Refugium Library
If you are part of regional fungi group or other conservation group with an interest in Fungi and would like to access these resources please feel free to get in touch by email: info@coedtalylan.org.uk
Furthermore, over the next few months, we’ll host three training sessions on using the Bento Lab, focusing on DNA extraction and identification techniques for community-led fungal surveys. Dates and registration details will be announced shortly
